Welcome to your new memory

After starting in 2016 with our first B&B "Het Appartement", we made the choice in early 2020 to go for a second experience "Het Chalet".
Our B&B's are located in district "de Koog", situated in the park De Koog, so you will not be bothered by passing traffic here.
Are you looking for peace, beach, nature reserves, dunes, water sports and a wide choice of activities? At B&B de Koog you are at the right place.

If you choose for "The Apartment", you have with a maximum of two persons a wonderful space with a separate (partly open) floor for the sleeping area.
If you choose "The Chalet", you step into a completely different experience. With its own piece of veranda and a little garden for two, this is a unique place to enjoy.

We hope you are rested to continue your journey after your stay with us and look forward to seeing you again.

Ron & Bianca Ranzijn

Hiking and biking in the Uitgeest area

Along the shores of the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer there are beautiful cycling and walking routes, such as the 'Ferry Route'. On this tour you will make use of several ferries to continue your journey of discovery on the other side of the water. Around the lake you will find various beautiful and valuable nature reserves.

The Noord-Hollandpad is a long distance footpath which takes you past water, dunes, sheep, flower bulbs, historic villages, windmills, pumping stations, farmland paths, dykes, ditches, drawbridges and heathland. In fact, everything that makes the Netherlands so special. The main route is 284 km long and divided into 16 stages ranging from 10 to 25 km. We are added as ambassadors to stage #11.

Route description and more information can be found here : Noord-Holandpad, Recreation Board and North Holland Walking Network

Cycling junction network

The IJmond region is connected to the provincial network of cycle junctions. The cyclist determines his own route and the number of kilometres he wants to cycle. Via the cycling junction network, you cycle from junction to junction. The network runs along existing cycle paths and traffic-free rural roads. The cyclist can determine the further route at each junction. Signs are placed along the routes indicating the route to the next node.

You can get a free junction card from us, on which the junctions are printed in a handy postcard format.

Sightseeing

Uitgeest is centrally located near several highways (A9).
Historical sights in Uitgeest are the Dutch Reformed Church with 14th century tower and the Roman Catholic Church in neo-Gothic style.

There are five windmills around the village: De Dog, De Kat, the Dorregeester Molen, the Tweede Broekermolen and the sawmill De Corneliszoon, the successor of De Jonge Leeuw. The latter is situated at the Lagendijk on the Industrial Heritage Park 'De Hoop'.

The municipality has two forts: The Fort along Den Ham and the Fort along Krommeniedijk (Fort K'IJK). The fortress, located between Uitgeest and Krommenie, is open to visitors on the last Sunday of the month from April through October. Both forts are part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, a line of defence located ten to fifteen kilometres around the centre of Amsterdam. The Defence Line is 135 kilometers long, contains 42 forts and was built from 1880 to 1920. The Defence Line of Amsterdam is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Various seaside resorts including Castricum, Wijk aan zee, Egmond and Bergen are within cycling distance of the location. Naturally, these seaside resorts can also be reached by car. Endless cycling, walking or running through the woods and dunes. When you visit the Noordhollands Dune Reserve you will need a dune card, but parking is free! Also visit visitor center De Hoep this is worthwhile. Did you know that the North-Holland Dune Reserve is one of the largest nature reserves in our country? It is about 20 kilometers long and 2.5 kilometers wide on average, with a surface area of 5,300 hectares. The area includes dunes, beach, inner dune forests with lots of relief and several smaller nature reserves.

Alkmaar

Alkmaar is the destination for a day in the city, within 20 minutes you are in the center.

Canals

The Verdronkenoord, the Luttik Oudorp, the Oudegracht, the Lindegracht... The Alkmaar canals look like they've jumped out of a painting. The best way to enjoy all this beauty is from a canal boat; they depart every hour from the Mient.

Museums

At the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar on Canadaplein you can learn more about the history of Alkmaar. There are also works by famous artists. Also worth a visit: The Beer Museum De Boom, the Dutch Cheese Museum and the Beatles Museum.

Shopping

Alkmaar has been in the top 10 best shopping cities for a long time. In the Langestraat and the Laat you will find branches of all the well-known chain stores. For the small, unique shops, you must be in the Oude Stad and other smaller shopping streets.

The world famous Cheese Market

From early April to late September, there is a Cheese Market in Alkmaar almost every Friday, from 10:00 to 13:00 on the Waagplein. Here you can take the best pictures of cheese, cheese girls and cheese carriers. There are also a number of evening cheese markets.

Zaanse Schans

The Zaanse Schans is a freely accessible residential and working area dating from 1850. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh biscuits, or take a look inside the warehouse where clogs are made. The cheese dairy, the tinsmith's shop and the various windmills are also worth a visit. The Zaanse Schans is a unique village in the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops. Take a bike or boat trip, browse around in the shops or feast at the pancake restaurant. A day out at Zaanse Schans in North Holland is fun and educational.

Flowering period

The Zaanse Schans offers a glimpse into the most important period of prosperity in the Zaan region: the 18th and 19th centuries. In the Zaan region, the oldest industrial area in Western Europe, there were once about six hundred windmills operating simultaneously. This was a direct result of the trade in the Dutch Golden Age (17th century). Thanks to creative Zaan entrepreneurs, numerous products rolled out of the industrial mills.

The Zaanse Schans is a historic neighborhood in the municipality of Zaanstad established in 1963 with relocated monumental wooden buildings and industrial mills from the Zaan region.
In the course of time, it has been supplemented with various cultural-historical museums, craft shops and restaurants. It lies in the Kalverpolder, a protected peat meadow landscape on the Zaan, opposite the village of Zaandijk.
This architectural reserve for Zaan timber construction is a protected village sight because of its architectural-historical and scenic value.

There are several smaller and larger museums on the grounds:

  • Zaans Museum
  • Mill museum
  • Museum Zaanse Tijd
  • bakery museum In de Gecroonde Duyvekater
  • Museum shop Albert Heijn

"Chalet booked for 1 night"

Everything is well arranged and in order here!
It gives - so in the middle of a residential area - a surprising holiday feeling.
Beautiful Log Cabin!

Greetings Geraldine and Frank.

Location : the Chalet

"Beautiful log cabin with good comfort!"

Beautiful log cabin in UItgeest. Located in the middle of a residential area, but as soon as you step inside you are completely lost. Lovely comfortable big bed and a kitchenette where you can make your own (free) coffee and possibly put a meal in the microwave. Television has the usual channels and all possibilities of Netflix and Youtube. So make sure you have all the comforts. I was there in January with a lovely storm so unfortunately I couldn't use the terrace, so I will definitely do that next time!

"Complete B&B in a beautiful setting"

A good bed, a good shower and a good breakfast. After a beautiful day of cycling it was good to stay in B&B de Koog. Full of new energy we experienced the dunes and the beach the next day.

You could order breakfast separately. This was very extensive, we even have sandwiches for lunch can make. Also equipped with all comforts. Netflix! The bedroom was big and had a good bed.
